Fort Phantom Hill
History buffs will revel over this popular Abilene attraction. In the entire Lone Star State, this historic site is considered the most pristine. To protect Texas settlements, it was originally constructed in the 1850s. The Army later abandoned it, however. It sustained substantial damage when the fort caught fire some years back, but a good portion of the structure’s original parts remain.
Jacob’s Dream Sculpture
Jack Maxwell’s Jacob’s Dream Sculpture is housed by the Abilene Christian University. Mr. Maxwell was a professor at the University and was involved in art and design. In 2006, the statue was finished and is a depiction of Jacob and his dream (per the Bible account). This beautiful piece of art depicts bronze angels ascending heavenward as they climb a ladder. Many people report feeling relaxed and soothed after viewing this piece. Here’s the best part: It’s free! That’s right – no charge.
Abilene Zoo
The local Abilene zoo has fun attractions for every member of the family, including those in their golden years. Enjoy animal exhibits as well as getting the opportunity to feed animals from around the world. Watch for special events because they are regularly hosted by the zoo! To see more of what this zoo has to offer, consider reserving a VIP tour.
Frontier Texas!
Located in downtown Abilene, this 14,000 square-foot museum houses Old West artifacts. You’ll be able to remain cool indoors, and learn about history in an interactive, fun, and exciting manner. Visitors can relive, close-up and in-person, a shootout, a wolf attack, buffalo stampedes, and more. Make sure to peruse all the available treasures found in the General Store.
For those 60 years of age and up, there are discounts available.
