There are currently eighteen parks in Waxahachie, TX which are located in different areas of the city. Below is a list of the nine best for elders who are over the age of 65.
Mustang Creek Park
This park is located at 205 Saddlebrook Lane and provides a playground which is covered where elders can play with their grandchildren. There is an adjacent fishing pond and the entire park consists of thirty acres which includes part of Palomino Dr.
A&F Thompson Memorial Park
Located at 500 blocks near West Jefferson, this park covers two acres, and is in close proximity to the Sims Library along with historical homes and a downtown shopping area. It is ideal for retired couples that want to enjoy a picnic together.
Waxahachie Sports Complex
This park is one of the area’s largest, covering ninety acres. It is located at 151 Broadhead Road and features Bermuda grass that is well maintained with a number of amenities. Since it is a sports complex it is designed to host venues such as baseball, softball, football and soccer which retirees and their families can attend.
Getzendaner Park
Situated near Waxahachie Creek, this park covers thirty three acres and can be used for many different gatherings such as picnics, outdoor games and exercise. It also functions as a trail system entrance and it features numerous trees which provide lots of shade during summer. The Chautauqua Auditorium is located nearby. There are also 2 restrooms, 3 pavilions and 3 playgrounds.
Lee Penn Park
Head north from Main St to 402 Getzendaner Street and you’ll locate Lee Penn Park. This full service area has a playground which has been updated, basketball court which is covered, picnic areas that are shaded and athletic fields that are illuminated along with the public pool. It covers three acres.
Waxahachie Creek Hike & Bike Trail
For elders that enjoy bicycling or hiking, there is no better park than this. Its trail extends 4 miles from the Getzendaner Park into Lions Park, and visitors will be treated to scenic views, trails for mountain bikes and natural habitats.
Brown-Singleton Park
This park can be found at 847 Farley Street and is spacious, covering thirty acres with a disc style golf course along with a linear based walking trail. A prominent pavilion can also be found nearby along with numerous picnic stations, Little Creek Trail and playgrounds.
Boat Dock Park
Located at 91 Lakeshore Drive, this park sits in close proximity to Lake Waxahachie and covers 2 acres with swimming, fishing, boat ramps, playground equipment and picnic tables. There are also public restrooms.
Wags-a-hachie Dog Park
There is no better park for dog lovers. It covers 2 acres which was carved from the nearby Rodeo Complex. It can accommodate both small and large canines and has various amenities such as waste stations, exercise units and water along with covered seating. The park is accessible from Waxahachie Creek Hike or the parking spot which can be found on Matthews Street.
