Skilled Nursing FAQs
Skilled Nursing is a temporary or long-term option with a high level of medical care provided by licensed nurses in a Skilled Nursing Facility. This type of care is typically needed for seniors who require medical attention and assistance with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, and medication management. Skilled Nursing services may include wound care, intravenous therapy, rehabilitation services, and monitoring of vital signs. These services are often covered by insurance and can be a short-term solution after a hospital stay or ongoing for residents who need additional medical services.
Staying at the hospital and going to a Skilled Nursing Facility serve different purposes in the continuum of care. When a patient stays at the hospital, it is typically for acute medical treatment, intensive monitoring, and immediate care for serious conditions. Hospitals are equipped to provide a wide range of medical services and have specialized medical staff available around the clock.
On the other hand, a Skilled Nursing Facility is designed for patients who require ongoing medical care and rehabilitation after a hospital stay. These facilities offer a higher level of care than what can be provided at home or in an Assisted Living community, but not as intensive as a hospital. Skilled nursing facilities focus on rehabilitation services, such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy, to help patients regain their independence and functionality.
Skilled Nursing is beneficial to those who still need medical care while recovering, often following a hospital stay or surgery. It is aimed at helping individuals recover from an acute illness, injury, or medical procedure before transitioning back to their home or a lower level of care, such as an Assisted Living or Independent senior living community.
Long-term Skilled Nursing focuses on individuals needing ongoing support for chronic conditions, while short-term Skilled Nursing is focused on rehabilitation and recovery following a specific health event. Both types of care involve a multidisciplinary approach to address the complex needs of the individuals under our care at Morada Temple.
